This article is many years old, and since then ExpressionEngine has gone through a ton of transition. While I currently prefer Craft CMS as my go-to for content management systems, EE is a staple in the industry and still has a lot of attractive qualities. This assessment is extremely outdated since it was based on a very early iteration of their new version "3" platform.
I’ve been using the latest and greatest version of ExpressionEngine to develop my personal site. I love the new UI, some of the new features, but lets just say it’s not ready for prime time.
I took a risk, and wanted to push through the issues that I’ve encountered. I’ve learned a lot, and I’m glad I’m running the latest version. It’s great to see the advancement of EE, but I’m still a little disappointed. I was hoping for a bigger change. I was hoping for some more native features. Yes, there has been a clean, fresh UI. Yes, the backend is updated. I just can’t shake the feeling of what’s the big deal in updating?
Again, I’m excited and happy to be developing on this latest platform, BUT it’s not without it’s issues.
Have fun!
